01 · RENEWABLE ENERGY
Investing in clean energy
N1 has invested in solar energy to generate clean, renewable electricity for our operations.
By producing our own renewable energy, we reduce reliance on South Africa's national power grid, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and improve the resilience and efficiency of our operations.

Stronger resilience
Reduced reliance on the national electricity grid.
02 · CARDBOARD RECYCLING
Giving cardboard a second life
Every cardboard box used throughout N1's operations is collected through our partnership with Mpact Recycling.
The material is processed into recycled fibre and used to manufacture new paper and cardboard products. By keeping valuable materials in circulation, we reduce waste, conserve natural resources and support South Africa's circular economy.
Our impact
• 100% of cardboard generated by N1 is collected for recycling through Mpact Recycling. • Cardboard is transformed into recycled fibre for new paper and packaging products. • Recyclable material is diverted from landfill. • Natural resources are conserved through recovery and reuse. • A more circular and sustainable supply chain is supported.
03 · RESPONSIBLE WASTE MANAGEMENT
Managing waste responsibly
Responsible waste management is integral to N1's commitment to environmental stewardship, food safety and operational excellence.
Waste generated throughout our manufacturing operations is carefully segregated into dedicated streams, including recyclable materials, plastics, general waste and organic waste. Approved partners collect, transport and dispose of waste responsibly in accordance with applicable legislation and recognised food safety standards.
Through structured practices and continuous monitoring, we minimise environmental impact while maintaining high standards of hygiene, product integrity and regulatory compliance.
Our impact
• Waste is separated into dedicated recycling and disposal streams. • General waste is collected daily by approved service providers. • Organic waste is managed through authorised disposal facilities. • Removal activities are documented for traceability and compliance. • Waste management forms part of our certified Food Safety Management System.
Standards and compliance
• SANS 22000:2019 – Food Safety Management Systems • ISO/TS 22002-1 – Prerequisite Programmes on Food Safety • SANS 10049:2019 – Food Safety Management Prerequisite Programmes • South African Food Hygiene Regulations (R638)
04 · RAINWATER HARVESTING
Making every drop count
N1 Food Group has invested in a rainwater harvesting system that captures, stores and reuses rainwater across our operations.
Harvested rainwater supports cooling towers, bathroom facilities and emergency reserves. By making use of naturally available rainfall, we reduce pressure on municipal infrastructure, improve water resilience and support more sustainable resource management.

Rainwater storage tank capacity across six units.
20–25 days
Emergency municipal water reserve capability.
UV treatment
UV lights support clean, potable water.
Our impact
• 120,000 tonnes of rainwater harvested and stored annually. • Water reused for cooling towers, bathroom facilities and emergency reserves. • Reduced reliance on municipal water supplies. • Greater resilience during periods of water scarcity. • Responsible use and conservation of water resources.
